World Cafe Strategy

On this session, we conducted the activity on the seven learning domains using the World Café strategy. This strategy made the learning process very interactive, engaging and meaningful. In our group activity, two members remained at the table as hosts while the other two members moved around to different groups to listen and discuss different topics related to the role of play in children’s development. After coming back to our original group, we harvested all the information and ideas we had collected from the other groups.  Our group specifically worked on the domain of creative development. We discussed the concept of creative development, how play activities support it, suitable play-based strategies and the challenges and solutions in implementing play-based learning.

Creative development refers to children’s ability to express their imagination, ideas, emotions and thinking through different forms such as art, music, storytelling, drama and play. It helps children build confidence, curiosity, problem-solving skills and self-expression. Activities such as role play, drawing, singing, storytelling, pretend play, dancing and block building encourage children to think creatively and express themselves freely. Through these activities, children learn to explore new ideas, communicate with others and develop their imagination.

We also discussed on  the challenges of implementing play-based strategies and their possible solutions. Some challenges included limited teaching materials, lack of space, time constraints and the misconception that play is not important for learning. To overcome these challenges, we suggested using low-cost local materials, proper classroom management, teacher creativity and creating awareness among parents and teachers about the educational value of play.

I really enjoyed this activity because it was different from the usual classroom discussions. Instead of only listening to one presentation, we were actively involved in conversations with different groups. The movement and interaction made the classroom lively and enjoyable. I also liked how everyone’s opinions were valued and it encouraged teamwork, confidence and collaboration. Through this strategy, I learned many creative play-based activities that can support children’s creativity, communication, and problem-solving skills.

In the future, I would like to implement this strategy in my own classroom because it encourages child-centered learning and active engagement. As a teacher, I can use the World Café approach during group discussions, storytelling activities, problem-solving tasks and play-based learning sessions. I would also ensure that all children are given equal opportunities to participate and express their ideas. By using this strategy, learning can become more interactive, enjoyable and meaningful for children. Overall, this activity was a valuable learning experience that showed me the importance of collaboration, communication and play-based learning in education.
